TYLOO Shocks Complexity: A New Era for Chinese CS2 Begins

by Gocsgo

In the knockout stage of the 2025 BLAST.tv Austin Major, TYLOO defeated Complexity with an unexpected 2-0. This is not only a victory, but also a strong rebuttal to the argument that “Chinese teams are not competitive in international competitions.” In the past five years, Chinese teams have always played supporting roles in CS competitions. Until this tough battle, global audiences began to re-examine TYLOO‘s strength.

On the first map Train, TYLOO adjusted the tactical rhythm in the early and mid-term and reversed the score. The second map Inferno showed their high control of the map space, and they still played a steady endgame despite the economic disadvantage. Jee and Attacker’s data performance was particularly eye-catching. The former had a full-game K/D of 41-24 and an ADR of over 85, which was the key to determining the outcome.

JamYoung and Mercury‘s map control in the middle lane and A site also played a strong role in distraction, creating space for the main output. The team cooperated smoothly, the offense and defense rhythm was reasonable, and they played at the level of a real first-line team.

Looking back to TYLOO

TYLOO has gradually become silent since it became famous in the 2018 IEM Sydney. Limited by the conservative domestic tactical style, frequent player mobility, and disconnection from international training, TYLOO gradually lost its competitiveness in the international arena between 2020 and 2023. Its performance in the 2021 PGL Major can be seen – it was eliminated in the group stage, the map selection was conservative, the execution level was slow to respond, and the players lacked confidence.

But from mid-2024, TYLOO began to carry out systematic reforms:

Introduced young players Moseyuh and Mercury, both of whom have higher reaction speed and execution ability;

Reconstructed the tactical guidance level, referring more to FaZe and Vitality‘s multi-stage fake A and real B tactics;

Frequent training matches with European second-tier teams to optimize confrontation experience and mentality management.

In the 2025 BLAST.tv Austin Major qualifier, TYLOO defeated Rare Atom, Grayhound and other teams all the way to advance to the main competition, marking the initial success of their “return to the first line” plan.

Tactical innovation: Embracing modern CS2 play

In the past, TYLOO was often criticized for “strong individual ability but weak system”. However, it can be seen from this Major that its play has been significantly modernized:

High defensive rotation efficiency: Mercury and Attacker’s support exchange between B zone is almost seamless, deconstructing the opponent’s fake tactics.

Mature economic management: Even if it lost in the first three rounds, TYLOO still made a comeback by forcing CZ and MP9, and no longer relied on Eco rounds to fight for life.

Detailed design of mid-lane breakthrough: JamYoung, as the second assaulter, took on the task of exploring points, accurately controlled the timing, and assisted the main sniper position to shoot accurately.

This game is not only a victory in score, but also a display of TYLOO’s comprehensive upgrade of tactical concepts.

Conclusion

TYLOO’s victory opened a window for Chinese CS2. In the current global CS landscape, European and Brazilian teams still dominate, but TYLOO’s performance proves that Asian teams also have the opportunity to gain a foothold in major events and even win the championship.

If TYLOO can maintain a stable lineup, continuously optimize the tactical system, and strengthen joint training in overseas regions, it has the potential to enter the global Top 15. More importantly, this victory will greatly inspire the Chinese CS2 community and attract more capital and young players to invest in it.
